American Black Bear (Ursus americanus)
Pictures of American Bears (Ursus Americanus) taken in the Mt. Baker area.
The bear with the brown fur is actually a Black Bear.
I stood very still with the tripod and the telephoto lens. The bear was happily grazing the sprouts of the spring plants and also took a small nap.
At some point he kept happily eating his lunch and came really close to me.
This encounter with one of Nature's most beautiful and gracious animals was almost spiritual.
The pictures of the bear with the black fur are pictures of a female mother (unfortunately I was unable to take pictures of the cub as it would have been too dangerous to get out of the car).
You should never try to approach a Bear, especially a mother with cubs.
Please do not ever feed wildlife. By doing so you accustom animals to humans, and once they do that, it's only a matter of time before they get near human houses or cars in search of food. If an accident happens the bear needs to be killed.
